Little Detour!

Hey all! Well I should be somewhere over the Atlantic right now with Sarah and a few other students who are making the trip, but a little bump in the road has risen. As most of you know, I joined the baseball team last year knowing that I still had an entire year of school, but no more eligibility with basketball. This year's team is made up of a bunch of seniors and had very high goals at the beginning of the season. We did not have that great of a regular season, but we started playing really well in the last week of the season, right before the conference tournament. We entered the conference tournament as the 4th seed, not expected to make much noise in the tournament. We won our first game in 15 innings!!! It was such a big momentum builder that we carried it into the next game and upset the number 1 seed in the tournament. Wouldn't you know it, we ended up winning the whole tournament! You can read up about it and see the winning hit and our celebration at www.gocugo.com. Because of our wins, we have moved onto Regionals that are held in Santa Clarita, California at The Masters College. I made the final reservations and the flights in February, thinking that we wouldn't win the conference tournament as we weren't playing that well at the time. I should've known better, right? I honestly had mixed feelings all the way up to the second game of the tournament. I wanted to avoid the situation in all. We would've lost and I would be on my way to Spain right now. I would not have to tell the baseball coach that I planned a trip to Europe, thinking that our team was going to lose. By the second game, it hit me that we might actually have a chance to win the whole conference tournament. This is my last year of playing collegiate sports. After this year, I will make the transition to coach. Being a player, you think you will always have the chance to keep playing. It doesn't set in until you are so close to being done that you start thinking about all of the times you could've practiced more or harder and gotten better. Us seniors have put in so much hard work and it is paying off. I played four years on the basketball team as I vital member of the team. We never achieved the opportunity to move past the conference tournament. I never would have thought that baseball would have achieved more than the basketball team. But now, I am so proud to be a part of something that hadn't been done at our school since 2004. I will always remember things from baseball and basketball. I took a picture right after graduation with both of my coaches and it hit me how special it has been for me to play two sports. My mom had the opportunity to play volleyball in her last year at Portland State University, and they won the National Championship! We still have a long way to go for that to happen for the baseball team. So, for all of you who are hoping to see some killer pictures and descriptions of all that I do, we will all have to wait a few more days! I can't wait to get over there and enjoy myself and travel! But making the National Tournament was just something I could not pass up as I will never have the chance to play team sports for a school ever again. I appreciate everything that everyone has done for me in my journey.
